Art requires observation. Whether you are an artist making it, or a collector enjoying it - the time required to slow down and observe is a huge blessing in our fast paced world. Art will show you stuff you never noticed before... and enrich your life in ways that are both simple and profound.
Your aesthetic response is unique! What you find beautiful is a perfect expression of you, and for you. Surrounding yourself with beauty will reduce stress, and foster peaceful happiness in your environment. Taking art classes or collecting art celebrates your aesthetic response.
Confidence to believe in the importance and value of your sense of beauty leads to a willingness to invest in creating more of it in the world. Flowing into the pleasure of the beautiful helps all of us define what is truly important and valuable in our lives. Collecting art that speaks to your heart will enrich your life. Devoting time to learn how to make art will make every moment a delight of discovery.
I have spent much of my life creating powerful art experiences for myself and my community. I am always amazed at the power of art to heal, affirm, and befriend. I am an artist working in acrylics, mixed media and colour pencils. I am an art instructor who takes great pleasure watching students blossom. My Art lessons are a lot of fun for me and my students
Let's relax and make some art! Nature's Canvas workshops at the Claremont Nature Centre combine Forest Therapy with outdoor art as participants engage in a mini mindfulness practice before setting up their easel and painting the creek!
Run by a Certified Forest Therapy Guide and an Art Instructor, this workshop is open for beginners all the way to experienced painters! It will give the freedom to create and express, as well as step-by-step instructions for those who prefer it. All materials are provided, and participants will go home with their own painting of the creek they will have spent the afternoon with.
Come enjoy the sights and sounds of nature's art, while making your own!

Judith Jewer has been teaching art techniques to all ages for over twenty years, and is delighted to team up with the Claremont Nature Centre to continue to help people slow down and see the art all around them!
Brianna Shields is an Environmental Educator and Certified Forest Therapy Guide who is passionate about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary, and helping people connect with the natural world.
Learning to make art is a big skill, not unlike learning to read. Children need foundational skills to learn how to read and write. Art making also has foundational skills that can be taught. I have twenty years of experience teaching children and adults the foundational skills for drawing, painting, and sculpture in a fun step-by-step format that fosters a sense of mastery. This feeling of mastery translates into the confidence to express creativity in art and in life.
"I have had the privilege of enjoying Judith's classes both in person and online. No matter the format, Judith's expertise, patience, talent, and humour have made these classes a very rewarding experience. It is with great enthusiasm that I would encourage all to join. "
